아이폰 만드는 애플이 전기차를 만든다고?

 

애플은 2024년에 자체 설계 배터리를 탑재한 승용차 생산을 목표로 하고 있다고 한다. 애플은 2014년도에 ‘타이탄’(Titan) 이라는 자율주행 전기차 관련 개발 프로젝트를 시작해왔고, 이러한 것에 대해서 가동해왔던 자율주행 전기차 개발 프로젝트 ‘타이탄’(Titan)의 연장선상이라고 필자는 생각한다. 구체적으로 애플의 자율주행 전기 자동차 양산 시점에 대해서 언급된 것은 이번이 처음이라고 생각한다. 이미 로보택시 사업에 진출한 구글의 자율주행 전기차 시스템 웨이모 등을 염두에 두고 이번 사업에 박차를 가한다고 필자는 생각한다.

 

애플은 자동차 산업에 오랫동안 관심을 보여왔다. 하지만 기존에는 운영체제(OS) 소포트웨어 사업에 안전성을 확보하며 사업을 넓혀 갔던 것으로 알고 있다. 그러나 2016년에 켈리포니아 자율주행에 관련된 허가요청을 하였으며, 라이다 서비스에 10억 달러를 투자를 하면서 자동차기술개발을 지속했던 것으로 분석되어왔다. 또한 자율주행 개발을 공식적으로 인정받았으며, 17년 여름에 자율주행을 위한 인공지능서비스를 개발하고 있다고 공식적으로 밝혔던 바 있다. 당시 팀 쿡 애플사 CEO는 언론과 언터뷰에 자율주행차, 전기차, 라이드 셰어링 서비스 등 흥미를 끌고 있는 자동차 산업의 대해 언급한 후 “애플이 초점을 맞추고 있는 것은 공식적으로 자율주행 시스템이다. 이번에 애플의 이러한 이러한 선언으로 인하여 굴러다니는 핸드폰, 또는 자동차는 바퀴 달린 컴퓨터가 될 것이라는 말을 꿈과 공상영화에서만 볼 수 있는것이 아닌, 현실에서도 곧 볼 수 있다는 것을 보여준다고 생각한다. 그러나 현 애플의 율주행 전기차 개발 프로젝트 ‘타이탄’(Titan)이 테슬라의 오토파일럿보다 더 안정적이고, 혁신적이고, 기술적으로 뛰어난지 에 대해서는 의문점이 든다고 생각한다. 또한 애플은 아이폰과 같이 자동차생산에 있어서 제조를 담당하는 파트너 업체에서 차량을 양산 할 것으로 필자는 생각하고 있다.  <로이터>통신에서는 “(애플 관계자는) 제조를 담당하는 파트너 업체에서 차량을 양산할 것으로 기대하고 있다고 말했다”고 보도했다.라고 한다. 이처럼 IT공룡그룹 애플만이 이런것이 아니며 구글도 이러한 사업을 추진중이며, 중국에서는 세계 최대 인터넷 기업 중 하나인 바이두는 2013년을 시작으로 자율주행 기술을 개발하였다. 그리고 최근 전기차 생산을 추진중이라고 한다. 미국에서는 아마존이 죽스(Zoox)를 인수하며 최근 로보택시 즉, 자율주행 택시에 대한 의지를 태우고 있다고한다. 또한 중국 텐센트도 과감하게 자율주행 분야에 투자를 한다고 한다. 이러한 모습으로 필자는 자동차산업이 지금의 몇몇 회사가 점유율을 나눠먹는 것이 아니며, 향후에는 대기업들의 산업전쟁 사업이 되지 않을까싶다.

Apple has long shown interest in the automotive industry. However, it is known that in the past, the operating system (OS) software business secured safety and expanded the business. However, it has been analyzed that in 2016, it requested a permit related to autonomous driving in California and continued to develop automobile technology by investing $1 billion in LiDAR service. In addition, the development of autonomous driving was officially recognized, and in the summer of 17, it was officially announced that it was developing an artificial intelligence service for autonomous driving.

At the time, Apple CEO Tim Cook mentioned in the press and interviews about the automobile industry, which is attracting interest such as autonomous vehicles, electric vehicles, and ride-sharing services. “Apple is officially focusing on autonomous driving systems. This time, I think that Apple's such declaration shows that a mobile phone or a car will be a computer with wheels, not only in dreams and fantasy movies, but also in reality soon. However, I think there are questions about whether the current “Titan”, an electric vehicle development project of Apple's straight-line driving vehicle, is more stable, innovative, and technologically superior than Tesla's autopilot. In addition, I think that Apple will mass-produce vehicles at partner companies in charge of manufacturing in automobile production, such as iPhone.

<Reuters> news agency reported, "(Apple officials) said that they are expecting to mass-produce vehicles from partner companies in charge of manufacturing." As such, it is not only the IT dinosaur group Apple, and Google is also pursuing such a business, and Baidu, one of the world's largest Internet companies in China, developed autonomous driving technology starting in 2013. And it is said that the production of electric vehicles is currently being promoted. In the United States, Amazon is said to have been taking over Zoox, and recently, it has been burning a willingness for robo taxis, or autonomous taxis. It is also said that Tencent of China is also boldly investing in autonomous driving. In this way, I think that the automobile industry does not share the market share of some companies now, and in the future, it will become a business of industrial war for large companies.
